If I were them, I'd go with XYZ.

Yeah... not as impressive as the Ride the SLUT marketing campaign.

Out of 17576 possibilities about 10000 of them are taken. So I wonder what limitations the FAA puts on changes.

In Canada, all airport codes begin with the letter Y. So the city code for Toronto is YTO and for Ottawa is YOW and for Vancouver is YVR, etc.

But if there's more than one airport, the airport codes seem to be essentially arbitrary. e.g. in Toronto, Pearson International Airport is YYZ, Buttonville airport is YKZ and the City Centre Airport is YTZ.

I used to cherish my YYZ tags on my luggage, as it made me think of Rush. But then it started making me think of how I acquired them, and I cut them off:(

That reminds me of something I heard about the new Los Angeles airport. There was some concern over the old one being known as "Ex-LAX".

The Grand Rapids airport is pretty angry, though: GRR.

Let me know if you want to acquire new ones for some other purpose.

I may do that, but I'm more interested in visiting our 51st state on two wheels next time (and when it's a bit warmer out than the last time:)

Heh. Never been there myself, but my parents had to change planes there twice. The first time was pretty bad, but the second time made them swear never again.

Cheers,
