Blog EntryRobert Jordan dead....Sep 16, '07 11:25 PM
for everyone

Just saw that he passed away.  Well nut.  Been a long time fan of his stuff.  Loved the first six books of his 'dragon reborn' series, then things started to meander.  Now, no proper ending... cruel clowns of fate. A loss, however.  Hard to find current books worth buying.

From the 'offical' blog....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.

Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

My dad has been waiting for Jordan to get well enough to finish the last book...

Dammit! 17 years I've waited for this story line to finish.

... and they all lived happily ever after?

Yes, but now rewrite that statement to add excruciating detail so that it takes up 900 pages.

Son of a bitch.

I guess I'll never get to see if Mat and Perrin finally have enough of Rand's shit and lay his dumb fighting the power-having ass out.

:-(

Damnit. I invested way too much time in this series for this to happen. Keep on writing in the afterlife Jordan, I want an end.

Evidently in the last couple of weeks he told the entire story to his wife and his cousin and he had been dictating the book onto tape, so there is a chance that there will be some kind of collaboration to get it finished.

In terms of cruel replies to the news of his death, this one takes the cake:

"In the spirit of the man, friends and family of the deceased have requested that his eulogy be tedious and poorly written."

Caveat: I've had personal communications with him while he was alive and secured permission to use his works as a MUD. That said, that was before the last 4 books had come out.

And while entirely in poor taste, a /. gem...

God finally finished Book 11, said "Are you fucking kidding me?", and whipped out the Smite Stick.

In all seriousness, however, I hope they do a solid job of finishing the series. I know it is one of the few books series where I wore out several from use, with a hodge podge of paperbacks and hard covers in my collection.

If they complete it and release it, I'll read the series.

I got to book 7` or so a few years back and realized that I'd be waiting a long long time before the conclusion, so I stopped and decided to just reread it when it was done.

well, if you read the comments on slashdot, they're basically correct, the first 4 or so are really damned fine literary works, the next 5 suck (except for 9) and then 11 picked up the pace again. So I'm hoping 12 will get done. I've invested too much of myself in this damned series for it to "O HAI, IT WUZ A DREAM, C?" on me.

Yeah, I realized by books 6 or 7 so, that I had read about 345,000 (estimated) pages in the series the previous few months, but only about 15 minutes (estimated) or so had passed in the book.

I'm willing to suffer through that for what I'm sure is a kickass ending, but I gave up since the ending was still many many moons away.

Now I'm worried about George R. R. Martin finishing his big(gest) series.
